November’s Member of the Month: Roland Grimes!

My reason for joining RevFit is probably different from most folks. In my early 70’s, I had never even entered a gym before. My goals when I signed up for Boot Camp were to lose 15 pounds, be as strong a year later as I was at signing (in other words, given the aging process, I did not want to lose any strength over the year); & to reduce my blood pressure so I would no longer need to take prescription medications.
After about six weeks, my blood pressure had dropped to a level where my doctor took me off medications & I had reached my weight goal. RevFit worked with me to build up my stamina and I signed up for spin class and trained so I could run a 5K race. In November 2016, I ran my first race, the Camellia Crossing, & came in 2nd, only one minute behind the first place winner! After that first race, I ran several races & in 2017, at the age of 78, ran my last race, along with 14 members of my family spanning 4 generations, and finished third.
Through the years, I continued training and working out at RevFit & now, at 81, I have maintained my weight between -1 & +3 pounds and still don’t need blood pressure meds. My leg strength is still 80% of what it was five years ago, so I continue to work on crossing items off my bucket list.
The best part of being a member of RevFit has been the relationships I have developed with the staff and other members. Today, my wife and I enjoy many special friendships with our former bootcamp instructor and my original bootcamp team members. RevFit is really like another family for me!
