October 2022’s Member of the Month: Meet Marvin Taylor!

  1. No, that’s not my address. It was my weight in June 2005. Lying sick in the hospital in Summer 2005, the doctors told me to prepare to die. I felt trapped in my own body, but there was a small glimmer of hope that God would somehow rescue me.

From 2005 to 2019, I was in and out of the hospital with many doctor visits. Congestive Heart Failure, A-Fib, Hypertension – just to name a few of my conditions. I tried making changes through the years, only to lose and regain. In 2019, true help finally began to be revealed to me. My Pastor was teaching about the God Kind of Health from 3 John 1:2, and I knew it was for me. I realized that if I would cooperate with what God says to do with my body and what He says to put in my body, I could experience Health. I had a choice to make. I had to become responsible for what I was eating.

In December of 2019, I set out to make major changes. I was referred to a doctor that treats beyond prescription. He believes food should be our medicine. He taught me how to make conscious food choices. On my first visit to him, I had come down over the year to 558 pounds. I began to follow his plan, and the scale began to change. In 2022, I noticed my scale began to stall in the upper 400’s. I knew exactly what was missing; “Movement.”

While surfing social media, my wife came across RevFit. When we visited, I thought “Man these people are CRAZY!!” Turns out it was the CRAZY I needed!! It didn’t take me long to see that RevFit is truly a family of people who really did care about me as a person and would help me reach my health and fitness goal. One of my fears was getting on that spin bike and being laughed at by others. That never happened. Every Instructor and every person spinning has always encouraged me.

When I joined RevFit, I weighed 468 pounds; within 3 months of Spin, I have lost 41 pounds and continue to lose. My desire is to be able to run a 5k without having to stop. I also want to be able to go to the store to shop for clothes and not be forced to go to DXL because no other store has clothes to fit me. I realize through these years I have the final say about My Health and well-being, and I have the Power to Change it!!

September 2022’s Member of the Month: Meet Hayley Domingue!

I’ve struggled with my weight for years, I would lose weight going on some kind of a fad diet then would stop and gain it all back and then some. When I joined Revfit 5 years ago I started doing spin almost everyday and lost quite a bit of weight. Eventually I started eating right and instead of making it a short term diet, I made it a lifestyle change. After losing weight with spin I started doing some of the group classes and loved it. I wanted to get into the gym and lift weights/workout on my own but I was terrified. Once I joined boot camp, I became comfortable with machines and weights and actually started gaining muscle and loved it. It made me realize that lifting doesn’t make you “bulky” and that gaining weight can also be a good thing! The accountability and support of my boot camp sisters and trainer is the reason I’m still doing it to this day and enjoying every bit of it. I’m so happy that the gym became a part of my everyday routine/life and that’s what really keeps me going.

Member of the Month Brooke Krause

August’s Member of the Month: Meet Brooke Krause!

188. One hundred eighty-eight pounds. This is a number I will never forget. This is the number that will always remind me of why I live this lifestyle now. After joining RevFit in May of 2019 just taking spin and body pump classes, I took the leap and joined the Holiday Hustle Challenge in November 2019. When I stepped on the scale for the first time in the gym, 188.8 was the number that came up. I remember thinking, “how did I get here?”

I’ve always been the heavier set girl in the group and family. I’ve struggled with my weight and body image for most of my life – and let’s be honest- and still do. I knew in that moment, I needed to make a change 44and hoped this would be it. I lost 10+lbs in the first month and found a new love of working out, so I signed that 6 month contract in January 2020.

The first time Kristan measured me, she asked “how are you feeling about this?” I said, “I’m excited but I’m terrified.” I knew this was going to be hard, but I knew this was what I needed. I lost about 40-45lbs and hit “goal” for the first time in March 2020 when I was about 6-8 weeks pregnant with my son.

I remember Crystal playing Wake the Giant (not knowing I was pregnant at the time) for my “spin goal party” (which was virtual because of COVID). Ever since then, I knew I had to wake that giant inside and tackle this pregnancy journey head on. I made every workout. I lifted the same weight or heavier. I “ate the paper” as they say. I got on the spin bike as much as I could. I took up running because the gym was closed for the pandemic. I didn’t let it stop me and my pursuit of living a healthy lifestyle, before, during and after pregnancy.

November 20, 2020 was my due date; I celebrated with bootcamp and a spin party riding shotgun. Little did I know, my journey was far from over. As soon as I was released, I got back to the gym, but only as a general member. After a few months of classes and some results, I knew I needed the accountability again. I rejoined bootcamp in July 2021 and was back to my initial goal within a few months. I kept to the process and lost another 20lbs for a total of 62lbs gone during round 2. What was next?

I told my trainer “I think I want to teach spin” to which she responded “about time.” She knew my journey wasn’t over, as most of our trainers do. I fell in love with spin all over again during this process. I remember how humbled I was after the first class I taught. I hope I can pour into our members daily and walk with them in whatever part of their journey they are on. This gym is truly a community – a family. No matter the season of life you are in, the goals you are trying to reach for yourself, there is someone who has been in your shoes before. There is always someone there to walk with you.

Member of the Month Rylee Prejean

Hi! My name is Rylee Prejean. I am 16 years old and an upcoming junior at Opelousas Senior High. RevFit Gym has changed my life tremendously from the first day I entered the building. I was introduced to RevFit through an associate, but I made the decision to join when my mom and I had a conversation about my health issues. From a young age, I’ve had problems with Uveitis in my eye, Narcolepsy, & Sleep Apnea. I am taking 9 medications which includes a steroid pill. It caused me to gain weight and other health issues. Between my mom, doctors, & myself, I needed to make a change. RevFit was the answer I was looking for. My start weight was 253.20 and I currently weigh in at 209. I feel confident, lighter, and amazing. This journey has taught me structure, discipline, and consistency. This is the best decision I’ve made for me!

June 2022’s Member of the Month: Meet Lesley Angelle!

November of 2022 will make 7 years at RevFit! Prior to joining the gym, I had gone up and down 80 lbs and everywhere in between. It seemed like I was always dieting but never seeing results, gaining weight and becoming less active. Inspired by some RevFit members I worked with, I decided to join the gym. RevFit has given me the freedom of balance. It has given me a lifestyle of fitness that is priceless.

Since joining the gym, I’ve reached fitness goals I didn’t think possible like running 5ks and snow skiing. I can run around with my grand daughter and enjoy hiking, biking, and swimming. The last year has been extremely challenging for me, mentally and physically. Had I not had RevFit, there’s no way I could have pushed through. I’ve learned that your obstacles are the very reasons you must keep coming to the gym.

RevFit has taught me that no matter what, you’ve got to keep showing up. The daily motivation from our instructors is just what I need to start my day! The gym is my therapy and I’m so grateful to Crystal and Apphia, and all the staff for creating such a wonderful place in RevFit! ❤️

May 2022’s Member of the Month: Meet Ashley Shelvin!

Since my teenage years, I’ve battled with an eating addiction. I was battling this addiction whether I was happy, sad, or bored; it became part of my life, and I didn’t know how to battle with it. After graduating from High School, I unexpectedly became pregnant and dropped out of college after 2 weeks of starting to take care of my baby girl. My life went from partying to working as I went into full time Mommy Mode.
Fast forward 6 years later. I was a mother of 3 children, so all of my time and energy went to them. By 2014 I was 290 pounds, blood pressure ALWAYS High, and I was battling a deep depression. I started walking and cut back on some unhealthy foods and lost about 65 pounds. I was looking and feeling great but still battled depression and didn’t know how to cope with things going on in my life. Because I couldn’t cope, the weight came right back on and before I knew it my scale said 351 pounds.
In December of 2020, I went in my doctor’s office for a routine checkup and was almost sent to the hospital due to my blood pressure being at stroke level. As I sat waiting for the nurse to recheck it after an hour, my doctor sat next to me and said, “Ashley you’re a single mother and from what you’ve told me about your children I can tell you love them dearly, but you are going to kill yourself if you don’t change your eating and lose weight.” From The compassion and fear in her eyes, I could tell this was serious and the thought of my children losing me because of something I could control scared me to my core. That’s when I decided I had to make a change. I cut back on sodas and dropped 13 pounds in 3 weeks so this was a start for me.
The next month I decided to inquire about joining a gym and I remembered how a friend of mine lost alot of weight at RevFit. I walked into Revfit Gym scared out of my mind from expectations of being judged and looked down on because I didn’t see many people who looked like me. Instead, I was greeted with smiles, waves, Hello’s and it was comforting. I met with Candice who told me about her journey and her reason for becoming a trainer, followed by members sharing their journeys with me and I was instantly inspired! The one thing I prayed about before leaving my car was asking God to allow me to feel his presence when I walked in, and immediately God showed up!!!! I left feeling uplifted and inspired to start my journey!!
Today I am doing things that I never imagined I’d be doing….like running!!! I am off ALL blood pressure meds and I am currently down 131 pounds since that visit with my doctor and I feel GREAT. I told my kids I feel better than I ever felt in my life!!! Two years ago I saw the disappointment in my son’s face when he came to get me to play soccer for the Parents Vs. Kids game and I physically couldn’t do it due to my knee injuries and weight. Today not only am I running with him kicking the ball, but my reflexes are quicker than his.( Yes I’m bragging..lol) I can keep up with my children and my children are finally eating Fruits and Vegetables!!!!
For 16 years, all I ever considered myself to be was a Mother. While my kids are the best gifts God has granted me with, I got lost in being just that. I’m one who finds true joy in helping others but always felt I wasn’t worthy or deserving to helping and loving myself. This journey is not just about losing the weight but realizing I am worthy of giving myself the same love and treatment I give to others. I’m loving me so much throughout this journey. For over a year now, I’ve been waking up before the chickens (literally) and mentally and physically doing something for me…and I love it!!! I find it to be therapeutic. Especially Spin!!!
The Trainers, Instructors and Members at RevFit are Truly Amazing. They motivate you, fill you with encouraging words, and really love what they do! I am and will forever be thankful for RevFit. Definitely no place like this Gym!!! Hearing from people how I inspired them amazes me and makes me feel so honored and knowing this is what keeps my pushing!!!!

April 2022’s Member of the Month: Meet Kandice Guidry!

Throughout my life I’ve always considered myself to be “active.” I played sports, coached youth baseball, and did CrossFit training. I thought that I was doing everything that I could do to live a generally healthy life. It wasn’t until I gave birth to my last son and was going through my divorce that I noticed how life had changed. My seemingly small indulges had turned into out-of-control habits. Eating, partying, and let’s not even speak about my drinking. Over the course of a year, I gained around 60 pounds, weighing in at 40 pounds short of 300. What still surprises me today is that I still hadn’t realized how bad off I was. It wasn’t until I began having unexplained health issues.
My first surgery came only 7 days after my 2nd son was born. That surgery was so extensive that I was required to have a nurse come and care for it. I was physically unable to walk and was limited to the amount of care that I could give to my newborn. Eight months later, a 2nd extensive surgery and a 3rd was suggested a few months later. I couldn’t take it anymore. At my consultation I was told that I had Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). My only question to him was “How do I control it?” He suggested that I lose and maintain a healthy weight. Later that night, I ran across a Facebook post from a friend. It was her standing over a mountain of clothes that she was giving away due to weight loss and at the end of her post was #Revfit. That is when life changed for me. I walked through the doors of Rev in November of 2017, unsure and embarrassed, but knowing that I had to “lose weight.” Under the direction of Candice and Sandra, I lost the 60 pounds I initially set my 1st goal to be. But that wasn’t enough for me. I wanted more. I switched to Crystal and Apphia in the summer of 2021 allowing me to lose an additional 37 pounds while adding on healthy weight.
This journey is hard!! And honestly for me, it wasn’t the workouts. It was my unhealthy relationship with food and alcohol. And still after all these years, some days I want to give up and fall back into the habits that never truly go away. It is what I stand to lose that keeps me showing up.
Over the years at Rev, I’ve become a certified BodyPump and Crazy Spin instructor. I also teach Tabata and L.A.B. Every day that I walk into the gym, it’s not just for me. I try my best to challenge and encourage the people around me, and if I can reach one, my job is being done. The statement that sticks in my mind the most is, “This journey is not just for you, you have to take someone with you” -Apphia. Four years ago, I walked into Rev with the intent on losing weight, but what I have gained will never amount the number of pounds that I have lost.

March 2022’s Member of the Month: Bakari Savoy!

About 8 months ago at the end of 8th grade, I wanted to get active during the summer. I wanted to stop gaining excessive weight at the time, so my mom joined RevFit before me and decided to sign me up. Starting off, it was something new I was just trying to get used to it. During the summer, I found an interest in fitness and had the utmost dedication for the gym.

As I went through the end of the year and became very comfortable with the community I was around, it made me work harder and set new goals each week. While at RevFit, I have lost 20 pounds and 26 inches by November. From then to now in February, I have started to focus on gaining muscle and have about 4 inches back in muscle. Also in this time period, I developed a 6-pack.

In the past few months, my main goal has been a strong focus to encourage my family to live a healthier life and in turn to stop any generational health problems. Another goal is to show the people in my community at RevFit that it’s possible to meet all their goals. Lastly, it’s an honor to be recognized by my achievements by such great trainers and staff. I just want to thank y’all for the love and support.

February’s Member of the Month: Meet Briana Rene

My name is Briana and I have been a member at RevFit for almost a year. As long as I can remember I have struggled with my weight. I have tried many quick fixes, which resulted in me gaining the weight back plus more! I was under the impression that once I lost the weight it would not come back. I did not understand that it was a lifestyle change.

The last 4 years have been the hardest years to maintain my weight. After a traumatic loss I lost touch with myself. I found myself being uncomfortable in my own skin. Eventually I became uncomfortable enough to realize that I had to do something to change it. In the past 4 years I have joined 3 different gyms that I did not attend on a regular basis. I would get comfortable with the small change that I made, then I would fall back into my old habits.

In the beginning of 2021 I seen a Facebook post that said free bootcamp for a week. I read so many positive reviews and seen so many great testimonies. I thought to myself, let me try this out. Not to mention the fact that I was already paying another gym membership somewhere else that I was not attending on a consistent basis. My first day of bootcamp was soooo hard I did not return to the gym for a whole month.

A month later, I seen another post shared from REVFIT Facebook page that made me realize I had 2 gym memberships that I was not using. I went to their website and scheduled a spin class “because I wanted to try it out”. For some reason I thought this spin class would be soo much easier than bootcamp. I mean how hard can sitting on a bike be… If you know how Crystal & Apphia’s spin classes are then you know you will not just be “sitting on a bike”!!! Apphia took the time to modify the whole class just for me. During and after the class I shed a few tears. That was the very moment that I realized I needed to make a change with myself mentally, physically, and emotionally. It was the 1 on 1 support that drew me into this gym. It was the first time I felt noticed at any gym. REVFIT is like no other gym that I have ever been to. Everyone is welcoming and helpful. This is the first gym that I’ve been to where everyone is on the first name basis with greetings.

Thank you Apphia for being patient with me and seeing through me. You motivated me to want more for myself. Thank you for your lovely greetings in the morning as well. Thank you to my family and friends for being my support system. This year my goal is to be more consistent with this journey!!!

January 2022’s Member of the Month: Meet AJ Meaux!

From the very second I was born, there was no getting around the fact that I was going to have to be a fighter all my life. I literally was born not breathing, so yeah, I’ve been fighting since day 1. I was bullied all of my childhood for being the weird, quiet, fat kid. I grew up with an alcoholic father who tortured us and blamed me for his downfall. All that, combined with growing up in a culture where most family get togethers revolved around food and me using food to also cope with my depression, led me down a dark path.

So, there I was. 24 years old in the doctor’s office, 300 pounds, and she told me I needed to be on blood pressure medicine. It scared me so much. So, I did what any “normal” person would do. For a 6 month period, I basically starved myself & lost 100 pounds. Looking back, I can finally admit I had an eating disorder and it was absolutely the wrong way to do it. As you would expect, I gained most of the weight back because I didn’t change my mind. I didn’t figure out why I was doing the things that I was doing.

5 years ago, my life completely changed. My family moved to a new house, so we could get a fresh start. As I was going to work one day, I realized that I now lived a minute away from a gym. I was curious, but it took me a month of driving by before I finally was brave enough to go inside.

I walked into RevFit Gym for my first bootcamp on September 6, 2016, and at the end of the camp when I was on the floor next to the toilet barely conscious, I said to myself, you let yourself get to is point, so it’s time to change, because you are never letting yourself get back to that point. This journey has been crazy at times. All the pain, blood, sweat, and tears, but it has absolutely changed my whole life.

I’ve lost about 68 pounds at the gym (all together around 127 pounds) & gained 20 pounds of muscle. Don’t get it twisted though. It’s not about what I have lost. I have gained so much more. I had a dead end job, I hated who I was, and I didn’t think I would make it past 30. Now, I’m 32, the happiest I’ve ever been, with a job I love (RevFit Manager & Spin Instructor), & most importantly, I’ve found my purpose in life. To be the beacon of hope that if I can literally go through hell & still survive, absolutely anyone can. You just have to believe, take the leap of faith, and always fight back.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey. To my family, I love y’all so much. It’s been a hard couple years, but I couldn’t do it without y’all. My crazy gym family, I don’t even care about my journey anymore. What I love is watching y’all succeed & transform your lives. My RevFit work family, I’m so grateful & constantly inspired by our trainers/instructors. Finally, thank you God for everything. The good & bad. Everything that has happened has molded & shaped me to the person I am today. I’m only human. We all fall. We all fail. The important thing is what you do after. Are you going to stay in the darkness of negativity or are you going to rise up like a phoenix & find your light?
